Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why is there no air conditioning?
At an altitude of 4,200 feet, Wells and Barkerville have about 42 frost-free nights annually. That means that even in the clear summer night, we may still get frost. Don’t worry, it usually disappears at sunrise. Now you know why we don’t feature air conditioning - it’s just not necesssary! In fact no building in Wells has air conditioning.
Can I get into a room in my wheelchair?
There are no hotel or motel rooms in the Wells or Barkerville area that are specially equipped for disabled guests. However, we have 4 regular rooms with one queen bed at level access with no steps. Two of those rooms have bathrooms with extra wide doors, enabling wheelchair access.
Pet Policy
Generally, we do not make any claims to be pet friendly, but we do allow guests to bring their pets into certain rooms provided:
- We are notified both at the time of booking and at check in.
- Pets must be well behaved and well supervised at all times
- Pets are not left in the rooms unattended at any time
- Owners are responsible for any damages
- Owners must comply with the local bye laws that require dogs to be on a leash at all times and owners to clear up after their pets.
Keep in mind Barkerville Historic Townsite does not allow pets within the site. Pets must be left in the owner’s car in the car park. There are no kennel facilities in Wells and area.
Can I bring firewood?
No. As a result of the pine beetle infestation there is currently a restriction on the movement of firewood around British Columbia. Moving firewood from one area to another can result in fines of up to $10,000, and even campground owners can be fined for not reporting violations. Only sawn bark free boards and planks are exempted under this law.
What’s the weather like?
