About Us

We are about 150 yards off the main road on Ski Hill Road with the RV Park on one side of the road and the Motel on the other. The whole town of Wells is within walking distance of our motel.

Wells is generally a quiet place, but it does have the occasional logging truck rattling along the highway in the middle of the night. Thankfully with our motel and RV park being away from the main highway our guests are not woken up by such noises that have been known to frequently disturb guests at the other motel and RV Park on the highway.

Guest Relations

We do not believe in soliciting testimonials from our guests, thus you would not find many guest reviews on various travel websites. Having said that, we do have many guests who have enjoyed their stay so much that they return to White Cap Motor Inn & RV Park year after year.

If you visit the Trip Advisor website you will see two quite derogatory comments about our motel. Trip Advisor will not let us respond on their site but here is the truth if you are interested:

Aug 25, 2009 – The person running theis place is weird – he doesn’t talk or communicate with you. The room was OK but there was no hot water for a shower in the morning. We discussed this with the owner but he did not seem to understand or want to know. I would not use this motel again.

Owner’s response: We had only one guest complain that there was no hot water in 2009 so we know exactly who this guest was. When checking out in the morning the guests advised that whereas the husband had taken a hot shower in the evening his wife complained of no hot water at all in the morning. What she said exactly was that the water ran tepid for a few seconds and then stone cold. Maybe I appeared weird but I was absolutely aghast. How could this have happened and who could have used all of that hot water ? The other two rooms sharing that hot water supply were unoccupied that night. Even if the heater had failed or someone had opened the fuse box in the room and turned it off, there would have been a good supply of warm if not hot water left over from the night before. The couple were in hurry to leave and were on their way before we could investigate.

My wife immediately went to the room. There was no shortage of piping hot water in the bathroom, but she did find a rather nice jacket left in the room. The shower over the bath is the regular sort with a hot and a cold tap. My conclusion was that the guest must have turned on only the cold tap. The water would have run at room temperature for a few seconds before becoming very cold.

I guessed that couple was going to visit Barkerville. I drove to Barkerville, found their Volvo in the Barkerville car park and left their jacket in a bag tied to the car’s windscreen wipers along with quick note to explain that the hot water supply had not in fact failed at all. They still went ahead and posted their lies on TripAdvisor!

Sept 14, 2006: If you fine yourself staying at the White Cap Motel in WellsBC, make sure your in the upstairs room, the ceilings are not insulated and you can hear every step, or should I say stomp of the water buffalos staying above you. When I brought this matter to the attention of the desk clerk he didn’t seem to much care, other than being kept awake most of the night with foot steps and the sound of the TV being left on, the rooms were clean and nicely laid out, with hot showers and coffee, but for myself and the wife we will not be staying there again.

Owner’s response: This guest and his family stayed in suite number 14. The guest unfortunately came to the front desk to complain in the morning rather than bringing it to my attention when I could do something about it. I told him I was sorry to hear that he had been kept awake and suggested he should have told me earlier. I also advised him that the guest above him had been taken ill and the day before my wife brought forward her shopping trip to Quesnel so she could get him his medicine that obviously was not working. In fact the guest from the room above later passed away from his ailments.

At the time it was built in the 1980’s the motel met all of the various building codes. It has concrete walls between the suites and the upstairs suites have wooden floors. The town of Wells is a quiet place with no background noise and no air conditioning. With everything else being so quiet it does have the effect of making any noise from guests in neighboring rooms seem much worse than for instance a city motel where it would be masked by background noises.

Since this guest stayed with us room 13 above him has had a new deep pile carpet with full underlay. With no background noise it would be nice to go beyond building codes and have far better sound suppression between the floors – well we’re working on that one!
